Bonnie Weinstein Crowe is an accomplished author and artist who was born in NYC and grew up in Southern California. She attended the Pasadena College of Art and Design on scholarship, however she left art school for her true "home" at UC Berkeley. At CAL, Bonnie wrote and produced stories and plays and screenplays; she tutored Asian refugees in English in Oakland, hung out at The Paramount and The Berkeley Film Archives where she saw every version of "The Postman Always Rings Twice" (3) and "Les Liasons Dangereuse ("4 at the time, now there's probably close to 14, which just goes to show every nationality likes a good tale with a dastardly villan"), and of course "Citizen Kane" ("there's only one, but I think I've seen it like 20 times"). Bonnie worked for 10 years in the movie industry, where she wrote films and worked with many Hollywood celebrities and a few icons. She also reviewed films while living in Manhattan; founded a successful online movie magazine, "Movieweek"; was the Chatmaster for Pseudo, hailed by The NY Times as "The Andy Warhol set for this generation." She also wrote and portrayed an online character "Judge Bubbie" for AOL during the Greenhouse years and went on to work for America Online as the Director of the Parenting Channel. Bonnie is also a successful online entrepreneur, having designed and launch several successful online apparel stores, with Bluesyworld being the mother store. Bonnie personally designs all the products for all five of her shops. For the past 8 years, Bonnie has returned to her art roots and her love for children's literature. Inspired by her two amazing children, Bonnie now writes and illustrates children's books full time, in addition to her studio work. She's sold several of her paintings in gallery shows in NY and throughout New England and is shopping around several books, including her favorite "Sarah Smartypants," set in her favorite city, Paris. "I like drawing and painting certain cities... Paris, Venice, Barcelona, London, and of course, my original hometown, New York. I love the movement of children, the freedom and how expressive they are in their every movement and emotion. There's a certain grace in every child, whether they're dancing in a recital or barefoot on the beach and I love to capture a bit of that true joy they're experiencing. Of course, I'm inspired by my kids, who are the easiest models to work with, as they put up with my endless poses for extra "dessert before dinner days." I also get my groove on by the colors, form and energy of certain artists like Chagall, Klimt, Hockney, Van Gogh, Red Grooms and Kathy Jakobsen. I also really admired many children's book artists, my favorites being Peter Sis, Maurice Sendak, Simms Taback, Brian Selznick, Patricia Palocco (and Robert Sabuda's pop ups, which are just plain fun).
